Detail by owner
After 37 years we are sadly selling our beloved 1976 Toyota Chinook that has never let us down on so many trips and vacations. Such an amazing camper built on the legendary Toyota hi-lux platform, and we’re looking to pass along to someone that will love her as much as we have.
She’s esthetically rough one the edges with some cosmetic rust, bumps & dents, but mechanically great with consistent oil changes & tune-ups.
There is a strong market for this little RV as it is desirable for its lightweight fiberglass construction, aerodynamics and ergonomic design. The Chinook features a 6 foot pop up roof tent, an externally housed propane tank, a sink and water tank, and the opportunity to install an electrical system charged by the alternator, an exterior source, or solar.
Here’s some of the bigger investments we've made:
- Low-mile Engine replacement in March 1992
- New Rear Springs in 7/10/2015
- Tie Rod Ends in 2/9/2018
- Replace alternator in 1/28/2019
- 4 wheel Alignment in 2/9/2019
- Replaced Master Cylinder in 2/9/2019
- New Battery in 5/28/2021
- Few thousand miles on new 6 ply tires
- Installed more comfortable front seats
- Newer stereo with USB power for phone/gps
- Swapped out 4spd transmission with a 5spd 3 years ago with new clutch, pressure plate & release bearing
- Replaced front main seal a few months ago
Would be perfect for someone looking for a project to swap the camper onto a newer Toyota SR5, or hit the road with a fully functional little RV.
